I can’t believe it’s already Valentine’s Day tomorrow!
This Valentine’s day my family and I will be celebrating by attending a One Billion Rising event at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis. One Billion Rising is happening across the world, people are rising to put a stop to violence against women and girls. People all over the world will be walking, dancing and rising on February 14th in solidarity, with purpose and energy to shake the world into a new consciousness. I hope you consider joining us!
I rise for my daughter, so that she will be valued as a wonderful person and that she doesn’t ever become one in three girls who will be beaten or raped in her lifetime. I rise for my sons so that they can grow up in a world where treating women with respect and honor is the norm not the exception. My husband is rising with us for all the women in his life who he loves, for daughters, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, and friends.
I can’t think of a better way to spend Valentine’s Day, yes I will be outside in February in Minnesota probably freezing my tush but I will be dancing and rising with my family for something that affects the entire world. And yes there will still be chocolate and red hearts.
BTW there is a choreographed dance to the song “Break the Chain” that I have attempted to learn… there will be flash mobs of this dance across the globe! You can already see Mexico dancing to it on you tube!
We won’t be forgoing other Valentine’s day traditions! My Lil Diva has been really into drawing Japanese Manga characters and came up with her own hand drawn valentines for her classmates. She has worked so hard on learning to draw these characters and I am so impressed with her determination and skill! Proud mama moment
We also received our much anticipated Valentine’s Day box in the mail. Every year my mom sends us an adorable box full of valentine goodies, not to be out done by her Halloween box we get every October.
If I have time, the hubby may get a mocha tres leches cake (one of his favs) made by moi, but we tend to celebrate February 15th
the anniversary of our first date! I almost cried when a good friend of mine offered to watch our kiddos so we could go out kid-free! Plans are still in progress I am so hoping it works out! The last time I was alone with my husband was the Friday after Thanksgiving when we shipped them off to my mom! After 6 years he is still the icing on my cupcake or maybe more appropriate…

Happy Valentine’s Day! Although I hope you celebrate your love for everyone more than just one day out of the year!
